Probably one of the best javelin throwers in history.

He was from Rhodesia, but came to the US and competed at Cal. He was a 2x national champion and was considered the best thrower in the world before the 1972 Olympics.

Rhodesia was banned from the '72 Munich games, so he was unable to compete. He qualified again in '76, but Rhodesian athletes were again banned. He becomes a US Citizen (the right way) and qualifies in '80, but the US boycotted the Moscow Olympics.

His response: I got to become a citizen of the greatest country on the fricking planet. What do I have to bitch about?"

He made a good life as a financial advisor and was a volunteer assistant coach at UC Santa Barbara. Still thinks he hit the jackpot.
