CMS reimbursement for physicians is going to be the nail in the coffin for private practice in America. I’m a surgical sub specialist in a poor southern state that is not quite as shitty as Louisiana and reimbursement here is amongst the lowest in the nation. Physicians are absolutely not benefitting from Medicare in any capacity. I currently have to limit the number of Medicare patients I see in a day as reimbursement is a fraction of private insurance here. There are surgeries I do where private insurance pays 3 times as much as Medicare. Medicare pays 20 percent of what private insurance pays for anesthesia for some of these surgeries too. It is total shite and I’m going to retire in my early 50s and do something else.

Is Medicare the same as Insurance where they send you an Explanation of Benefits?

My daughter was born at 25 weeks and spent 4 months in NICU her bill was well over a. Million dollars and that was back in 2002. I do not think that is what Medicare actually pays though. They negotiate and cheaper rate.
