Even though he made by far the highest score on the civil service exam and by all accounts is well liked and doing a great job.

quote:

"We have seven finalists,'' Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins said. "All of the candidates passed their exams today so seven finalists move on to be assessed by my selection committee.'' The following candidates and scores are as follows:
Interim police chief Benjamin Raymond - 94
Lt. Janice Dailey - 92
Sgt. Michael Carter - 89
Cpl. Jason Frazier - 89
Sgt. Kevin Strickland - 88
Assistant chief of police Wayne Smith - 86
Lt. Tedris Smith - 78

quote:

Sources confirmed to KSLA News 12 that the board recommended Assistant Chief Wayne Smith, Lieutenant Tedris Smith, and Sergeant Michael Carter for the role of the police chief.

Those recommended by the board had the lowest scores.....

Tedris might not even be able to read. How can you make a C on a police test?

Sounds like Shreveport is following in the footsteps of BR.

It's a tradition. The black chief that Raymond replaced had the lowest scores when he applied. Mayor Perkins firmly believes that the whole concept of meritocracy is racist.

In a perfect world I would be upset but in reality Shreveport is so far gone that it really doesn't matter who is chief. It's like being on a plane that is definitely going to crash. Who cares who the pilot is

I think what happened was that they used the committee to sidestep Raymond without it becoming a political issue for Perkins.

That's actually a pretty good analogy.

Raymond is the best person for the job regardless of race. I’m guessing there will be a mass exodus of rank and file in the near future. Hiring and retention are terrible already at SPD. I feel sorry for the good folks that do work there.
