It's just the first step on our transhumanistic journey. We will merge with the machines in about 100 years.

Folks have too much time on their hands. We run around like chickens without heads doing absolutely nothing. Men, especially, aren't designed to sit in an office all day collaborating and attending meaningless meetings. I'll guarantee you the poor bastard out at daylight cutting pulpwood til dark ain't depressed...he's too tired to stay in his own head. I'm much more satisfied in my shop working on a car or refinishing a piece of furniture than I am at a damn computer....even digging a ditch or simply mowing the lawn with a push mower is more satisfying than anything I've ever done with a smart phone or a computer. Kids today don't even have to turn the page in a hustler to jerk off.....

I think the underlying factor is that we are raising a generation of snowflakes. We are no longer encouraging kids to excel. Instead, we tell them that everyone is special & that it's ok if they are fat, stupid, & lazy. If they don't pass a test, then the test is racist. We have college students demanding they receive a grade no lower than C no matter what they do, FFS. When this happens, people think everything should be given to them and not earned.

It doesn't help that everything is considered a mental health issue nowadays either. Boys acting like boys need to be put on ritalin & other drugs. (But somehow, wanting to cut off your dick is perfectly acceptable) If I was a kid now, my teachers would want me doped to the gills. I was able to talk to other students while still listening to every word the teacher said. Back then you were considered gifted if you could multitask, now you have ADHD. We have drugged our children & lowered expectations. Of course there are going to be far-reaching repercussions.

Amen. I worked in an office at a computer for 10 years. Never again. We are raising our children to think manhood is bad thing. People with actual physical skills are looked down upon. Just look at the average millennial "man." They spend as much time primping as girls and display almost no testosterone.

I know im close to a mental break down. It has nothing to do with politics or our friend the smart phone.

Great read, anc. Do you see repercussions of this in your higher ed classes?

I have multiple students that will not take notes, but find it okay to hold me up so they can take a picture of my slides when I lecture.

And they are starting with IPhones younger and younger. I was in church a few weeks ago and a child no more than two had an iPhone and was swiping though pic after pic.

Oh good grief don't even get me started... My 2 1/2 year old grandson can navigate through my wife's Samsung faster than she can...

For the record, technology is not (and has never been...) the problem.

Biologically we are not wired to experience and interact with the world through the single/narrow window that cell phones and social media provides. If that is the only medium you know its no wonder issues begin to surface...
