I am more cynical than this, but do concur.

While I am no fan of Trump, this banana republic show trial is BS and sets a terrible precedent for the future.

What happens when Beshear is the Dem nominee and a conservative AG in Kentucky puts him on trial for some Trumped-up charges (pun intended)?

I'm guessing the leftist, clapping-seal brain trust will be less enthusiastic.
