That lady's a c*unt
I was just down there in mid May. Was already over 100 degrees and everything was dry. They needed the rain, but what a terrible way to get it. Hope there's no further deaths, especially children

Oh my. I read this a couple of days ago but never imagined a personal connection.
My wife just showed me a post from local Meteorologist, James Spann - Sarah, a young girl at Cherokee Bend in Mountain Brook, AL was visiting her cousin in Texas, did not survive. My wife has discussed Sarah and her brother several times. She and her colleagues are devastated.
Prayers for all the families involved. I know the community(s) will rally to support.

Just a few months after the country eliminated the premier 3 satellite programs designed to predict and mitigate these things. What a sad sad result. What a tragedy

These scumbags gutted NOAA and are now claiming there was no way to have avoided this tragedy. Now they’re shedding crocodile tears.

@grok
did Trump’s policies lead to flood deaths in Texas?

No. While Trump's administration cut NOAA's climate research funding in 2025, the NWS issued a flood watch over 12 hours before and flash flood warnings 3+ hours prior to the Guadalupe River rise. The event's extreme rainfall was underpredicted, but not due to those cuts—weather forecasting limitations persist across administrations. Blame lies more with nature's unpredictability.

Just going to leave this here. Not sure what to make of it, but it's pretty interesting if true

Do you honestly think that was some impulsive decision made in a vacuum? Once again, the drivel being spewed without facts is gross.
While the DoD intends to cease sharing certain types of satellite weather data by the end of July 2025, they are still doing so at this time.
The simple (and readily available) explanation is that the Navy indicated that the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP program) "no longer meets our information technology modernization requirements" and cited cybersecurity concerns.
As such, NOAA will begin relying on data from the Weather System Follow-On – Microwave satellite (WSF-M) and the Electro-Optical Weather System (EWS) to replace the DMSP data.

NWS Warnings Timeline:
Wednesday, July 2, 2025: The NWS forecasted 4–8 inches of rain for the Texas Hill Country, including Kerr County, with a high risk of flash flooding due to the region’s terrain and proximity to the Guadalupe River.
Thursday, July 3, 2025:
1:18 p.m. CT: A flood watch was issued for Kerr County, warning of isolated rainfall up to 7 inches and a high risk of flash flooding through the overnight period.
11 p.m. CT: A flood warning was issued, indicating flooding was imminent or occurring.
Friday, July 4, 2025:
1:00 a.m. CT: A flash flood warning was issued, signaling immediate danger.
4:03 a.m. CT: A flash flood emergency was declared for Kerr County, followed by a “particularly dangerous situation” warning at
5:34 a.m. CT, urging residents and campers in Hunt, Kerrville, and Center Point to seek higher ground due to a “large and deadly flood wave” on the Guadalupe River.
Rainfall Impact: The area received 4–6 inches widely, with up to 12 inches in some spots (e.g., 6.5 inches in Hunt in three hours), causing the Guadalupe River to rise 22–26 feet in 45 minutes to 2 hours.

Wow, these 2 boys survived and talk about it. Just a complete nightmare scenario. I also read somewhere that cell service is weak in that area but nothing to confirm.
Based on warnings day prior the adults in charge should have made plans to stay at higher ground to be safe. When in charge of kids you have to always take the safer path because parents have given you authority to tqke care of their kids.
Just a travesty and still many missing. Cannot fathom what those parents are going thru knowing odds are almost zero any others survived.
