“CCS is plenty safe and already happening”
Are you confusing enhanced oil recovery with sequestration?Enhanced oil recovery has been done for many years,it’s not a problem.
Only 1 sequestration project has been done-in Decatur Illinois at a Archer Daniels Midland plant,it leaked.ADM was monitoring it but delayed reporting
that it leaked for 5 months.
Exxon has now started a sequestration project in Gillis La,above Lake Charles 2-3 weeks ago. That where the Chicot aquifer lies that supplies water all the way to Lafayette and everything above south west to Rapides parish. If the pressurized CO2 leaks into the aquifer or if a salt water collection gets pushed up into the aquifer a whole lot of people are going to be fricked.A big danger in Louisiana is that there are 1000’s of abandoned oil wells that can provide a conduit for the CO2 to leak.
I went to a presentation presented by LSU,bunch of experts assuring the audience the CO2 wouldn’t leak,it was perfectly safe.
I’ve read about the Titanic, the unsinkable ship.Didn’t even complete its maiden voyage.
Lots of experts involved with the space shuttle program.Obviously the crews of the Challenger and Columbia trusted them. How did that work out for them.
More recently the Covid debacle.Expert Drs.assured us if one got the “vax”
they wouldn’t get Covid or pass it on.How’d that work out.Everybody I know that took it got Covid, many 2-3 times.(I didn’t take it)
Also it was safe, many young men suffered heart damage.I know one of them.
I just can’t see endangering our water supply. If CO2 was an existential threat it might be worth the risk. But it’s not so it’s not worth the risk.
The only reason it’s being done is for money, the 45Q tax credits. If it wasn’t for that, sequestration wouldn’t even be discussed.
