Long marriage with sons and daughters. Both my husband and I are highly educated and traditional. I did not work outside of the home while raising kids.

You say the women only want the top 3 percent of men, but I more often see men only wanting the most beautiful women! It can go both ways and I think that it can be pretty competitive with young men to have really pretty girlfriends. The problem is not heavily skewed to women wanting the perfect guy.

People used to value staying married and did not see divorce as an easy option, like they do today. It is imperative for my girls to be able to support themselves in case they have to. So clearly, they are going to want an educated professional guy with a similar background because that is the guy who will be a better fit for them. However, they do not feel they "deserve" the type of man you described.
