Towards the individual, I have 0 sympathy for an American caught in enemy territory who is there on their own free will.
That being said, even if hypothetically the NKs would capture Gravy Chambers, as a US citizen, I would demand he'd be released and take action if not.

Americans are actually more safe than people think just as long as they abide by the laws. The ones who get jailed are mostly because they want to take something as a souvenir or go somewhere where they are prohibited. NK relies heavily on tourist coming and spending money their considering the very few revenue streams they actually have. For the 3 Americans they are holding right now thousands have gone and come back safe.

Iran is one of the most beautiful places on earth and encompasses many different types of fauna and environment.
