Information.

And since most information is now essentially free the dumbest thing we could possibly do is expend resources on flooding college classrooms.

What does a free graduate do when there are no jobs> If the government pays for it then they soon run out of money. And when government pays for it you learn only what they want you to learn. If there is free education then we will know for sure that it's the lib democrats who are in charge. Then the country becomes the country like others who have adopted this socialist doctrine. No thanks,

Never really considered it from this angle, but I guess a college education consists of two basic types of learning: information and experience.

With respect to intellectual property rights, we should strive to make all of the information part free-flowing. As for the more tactile aspects of education, there’s no way around having someone pay for that part.

Free college level educational courses on edx.org

No one needs to sit in a classroom to learn something anymore. The game has changed.

High school is free and the dropout rate is insane in some places.

This is a partial truth, Scottish universities are free to Scots but not English.

Granted they are selective about who gets in, but it is free.

Does Germany still screen kids out from college around middle school age?

This is still the case. Honestly I would be in favor of free college here if they were screened in a similar way here.

That is not the case with “free tuition”. The tuition is paid by the tax payers, not the students. We already have free tuition....it’s called Pell Grants. Free tuition for the poorest. I believe the annual budget is close to $30B per year.

Also, once everything is free(tax payer funded) watch how cost per student rises drastically. If any system is able to manipulate government funding it’s the education system.

Look at medical cost trendlines before and after Medicare. There's your answer (hint: they will explode

Absolutely!

I tell people to look at student loan debt before And after the government guaranteed loans.

We have to stop making a college degree this big thing that everyone should have.

Yep...we need to remove the stigma of learning a trade.

An average baw with a juco certification in hvac has much greater earning potential than if he had a bachelor degree in criminal justice.
