Apparently not because he was beaten pretty badly, bruises on his hands, knees and face, and no report of any physical evidence from that.

Of course if the killer was a professional I'm sure they have ways of limiting that but would a common street thug?

Also if a thug with a gun was wanting to rob him, why would he beat and then kill him, and then not take anything? There are certainly some movie-esque explanations like the thug had a gun on him, there was a struggle and thug regained control of the gun and shot, either with Seth trying to flee or laying on the ground, thug is spooked from it and just runs off.

But nothing, NOTHING, explains the (apparent) complete lack of investigation or disclosure by the police... unless there was something more sinister going on that is either being covered up or still under investigation.
