I am not saying that Tylenol causes autism because the cause is most likely genetic. There is a genetic component but something is causing it to become more prevalent

The rate of severe or profound autism which is what would be considered autism 20 years ago has not changed. What has changed is that autism has been changed from a disease to a spectrum. Children who 20 years ago would be considered slow are diagnosed with stage 1 autism. Screening has also increased and like the old saying goes “if you look for something enough you will find it.” Also it no longer takes a child psychiatrist to diagnose autism and intellectual disability. They can now be diagnosed by family physicians (like myself), pediatricians, and NPs. Too many of these professionals do not have the proper training to accurately make the diagnosis. They use screening tools like the M-CAT as diagnostic tools instead of screening tools.
