Harris County Judge calls for special session on Flock as governor pulls state funding

quote:

HARRIS COUNTY, Tx – Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo is calling for a special Commissioners Court meeting to reconsider the county’s use of Flock Safety license-plate readers, arguing that officials renewed the surveillance technology without a full public discussion or the additional oversight provisions contemplated at the time.

The push comes as some Texas communities reconsider their relationships with Flock amid questions about who can search the company’s nationwide network, how vehicle data is shared and whether local governments have enough control over information collected on their roads.

This part bugs the crap out of me

Supporters say the cameras help investigators locate stolen vehicles, identify suspects and solve violent crimes. Privacy advocates counter that the system records every passing vehicle—not only those connected to a crime—and can make information available well beyond the community where it was collected.
