You started the nonsense with a "the world would be better off without religion." The areligious seems to suck as bad (if not worse) at treating their fellow man with respect.

Your hypothesis that government was acting as a religion isn't completely disagreeable. I would simply argue that man cannot be areligious. Those who claim to be substitute other items for sacraments, ceremony and icons.

The greed and power seizing from the USSR didn't stop with religion, all facets of the lives of people were affecting, changing business-owners to usufruct tenets. Even if you don't accept my hypothesis that religion is in many ways a religion, you have to admit religion wasn't singled out in your examples. Both governments seized all aspects of people's lives.

What the hell? (Pun intended)

The delusion is strong with this one

He cited to worst examples of atheistic reign, and your response was how horrible they were to everyone, not just religious types?

THAT WAS HIS DAMN POINT

If there is no belief in punishment for your deeds on Earth, then those who seize power will be as brutal as they need to be to maintain power

How do you ignorant arse, galactically stupid, brain dead, not original thought in your head atheists not understand that?

If you only have to answer to your fellow man, then the most destructive man will end up in power, by eliminating his fellow man that stands in his way

Religion is the only thing that keeps this world civil

These are the same Christians that Ted Cruz declared war on a couple of weeks in a performance, which so infuriated conservative writer Rod Dreher, that he said he wouldn't vote for Cruz if he was running against Al Sharpton.

The areligious?

They don't have organized camps telling them to have an "us vs them mentality" and telling them to spread their unfalsifiable hypothesis to others.
There have been atheist/agnostic murderers that used the government to seize power. In the end these murderers weren't spreading their belief, but were doing what sociopaths do.

You're just bloviating now. (Also, at iPhone for not knowing "bloviating.")

You made the argument and now are trying desperately to run away from it and defend it at the same time. It's a shitty argument. Either drop it or own it.

There is a difference you don't want to acknowledge, that agnostic leaders who are viciously seizing power are doing it for the sake of power. Leading a pogrom or other religious bigotry that gets people killed is simply a vicous "us vs them" mob violence between angry religious primates.

Both are wrong, but they came from different reasons, one from bigotry, the other from a sociopathic need for power.

Either way, I believe governments fulfill the tenets of religion. Which would make the Stalin example interesting as he was practically worshiped with his Bust everywhere, glorifying icons were everywhere, and questioning him wasn't allowed, as if he was a deity.

Stalin Icon
Jesus Icon

See how similar they look?
And bonus points for Stalin holding up a cross.

Belief in the government is a religion, called statism.

We could do a survey and see if the Christians prefer the spitting or the beheading?

Are those their only choices? Are uneventfully walking the streets, visiting the shops, etc. options that are not available to them?

I said my peace in the Burt thread. The Israelis who settled there used every means of merciless, underhanded and backstabbing violence to gut out their little stronghold in this "holy land," which is glaringly, obviously anything but.

Theocracy and "best Korea" are also not humanity's only options for systems of government, but it does seem as though the organized ideologies of the world will never stop warring against each other for any lasting peace to be achieved. Good luck. Wake me when the dust settles.

I should have anticipated the replies

1. find a way to blame Muslims
2. change the topic (atheism, USSR, North Korea, Nick Saban)
3. can't blame Jews for anything, too much white guilt
4. blame the OP (me)
5. article too long. Folks, it only takes about 45 seconds to read it. Are you guys really that level of "swamp people"?
6. find a way to blame Muslims

Seems like immature behavior by students from what I read. But go ahead and ascribe it to all jews. Very intelligent of you.
