Department of Homeland Security has a lot more to do than illegal aliens, and Googling DHS Metrics you can find a nice written listing of departments with individualized measures of performance, 'metrics'. Problem is Chatgpt can't find actual monthly data that would indicate trends. Much of the official reports are 2 years old or greater.

There has been a lot of good work done by DHS this last year, but unless summarized and published, it does not exist.

Most state and fed govt agencies have this problem with tracking hard data versus sound bites

Let's look at what DHS has actually put out under Secretary Noem's leadership.

The department just released their 2025 Year in Review, which summarizes a ton of performance data and trends from the past year. It's not buried in old reports; it's current and highlights some massive wins.

For example:

Border security: Crossings dropped 93% year-over-year, with total southwest border apprehensions at just 73,329—way down from the Biden-era average. They've had zero parole releases for seven straight months, and USBP apprehensions are at record lows (like 26,000 nationwide in some months, the lowest since 1970).

Drug seizures: CBP grabbed over 539,984 lbs of drugs, beating out 2024 totals.

Removals and enforcement: Over 622,000 illegal aliens removed, plus thousands arrested in targeted operations like Midway Blitz and Tidal Wave.

Cost savings: DHS saved taxpayers more than $13.2 billion by cutting waste, and they've inked 19 international agreements to boost security partnerships.

Disaster response: Expedited billions in aid for hurricanes and floods, with 98% debris clearance in affected areas and rapid deployments that saved lives.

You can check it out yourself on the DHS site:

It's not just sound bites—there are specific metrics on everything from hiring surges (84% increase in CBP staff) to Coast Guard interdictions (200% up in narcotics seizures).Sure, not every internal monthly dataset is public (probably for security reasons), but the trends are clear and published. Noem's only been in the role a year, and turning around a massive department like DHS takes time, but these results show real progress.

What specific metrics are you looking for that aren't covered here?
