Under the belt and road initiative....

quote:

China has been involved in financing and constructing more than 250 coal-fired power projects and units across dozens of developing countries.

They promised to stop in 2021.....but that doesnt include any that we already "commissioned".

Was in Southern China a while back. City had thousands upon thousands of electric scooters. The air was still hazy several days due to them making the electric power with coal plants.

Don,t they have areas where the air pollution is so bad that people have to wear masks?
Or is that rumor?

There are web sites where you can see AQI (air quality index) for anywhere in the world.

The scale goes from 0 to 500, most of the places monitoring dont have equipment that will measure beyond 500 because they never thought it would be that bad. But during the winter you will see 500 popping up in some cities.

Per my OP the worst air quality in the world is considered Pakistan, the number one beneficiary of belt and road investment.

I know on BBC I hear reports from Mumbai during the winter when the air quality was so bad people did not want to drive because the air was so "thick" like a dense fog.

Not that bad in Guangzhou which is just west of Hong Kong.

I remember going through Pittsburg in the mid-1950's and LA too in those days. Now that was nasty, eye burning stuff.

Cool, appreciate the info, thanks! Yeah, we made a road trip through S. Dakota one time. Not as bad as what you're describing. But the temperature gauge in my car shot way up, and my gf's asthma kicked in hardcore.

I checked out China.
https://www.iqair.com/air-quality/china. And then looked up what the numbers mean.
