Whenever a city has slumped to this level, there is always a key event that set it all in motion.

The St. Charles Avenue gang somehow rationalized to themselves that Dutch Morial would be a better mayor than Joe DiRosa, so they backed Morial to the hilt.

Or maybe they saw it as an opportunity for them to make a huge, collective, pretentious social statement.

In retrospect, wonder how proud the ones are now of their forebears who laid the groundwork that made all this wonderful ambience possible.

But don't think they're not paying for it bigly now.

They're completely surrounded, and require armed patrols to afford them some semblance of security.

Whenever their female friends and family members leave their homes for whatever, there is an unavoidable concern for whether or not they'll make it back unscathed.

Pretentious social statements have consequences.
