How many of you have received any kind of inheritance that originated prior to the 1860s?

The only inheritance I’ve ever received was a $3500 jon boat with a 30 hp Johnson tiller steer motor.

My dad bought it when he retired in the mid 90s.

I got $250 when my grandmother died. My parents took it and bought me a dresser.

I got $1000 from I don't even remember who when my dad died. That's it as far as my inherited wealth.

eta- and I spent a good bit more than that on his funeral so it was a net loss.

The assumption that modern southern whites are living off the wealth built up by ancestors that may have owned slaves is laughable.

Neither of my parents’ families could even afford year round shoes until they were teenagers.

My dad said he’s going to leave me “A stack of bills this high” with his hand about 3 feet off the ground.

My dad grew up on a farm. His dad was a sharecropper and he picked more cotton than most slaves did. They had electricity but no A/C and an outhouse. Guess his grandparents spent all of that “slave earned money”.

I asked one of my dad’s best friends who grew up like my dad, what his middle name was. He said, “I don’t have one. We were too poor to afford a middle name.”

Can someone please explain this reparations bullshite to me? So if we have inheritance from slave days we have to pay? Do blacks who put their own people in chains have to pay?

Exactly.

My dad was born in 1929 and mom in 1934.

Paternal grandfather was a WW1 vet who worked in a steel mill and farmed on the side.

Maternal grandfather was effectively the dairy version of a sharecropper.

My mom still brags about how fast she could pick cotton.

Mom grew up with dirt floors until she was 8 yo. She also loves telling stories of doodling up bugs.

From what I gather, we're all expected to pay. Doesn't matter if your family came here 5 years ago.

I thought that’s what affirmative action, and the government entitlement programs were for.

It’s just the federal government’s money, it’s not like you’re paying it out of your bank account!

Just waiting for the Native Americans to pipe up and ask for fair current market value for all the land they used to have.

No shite.

When does it stop? Is every single race gonna demand reparations from centuries ago?

I'm 52 and I've never picked cotton. But I've picked rows and rows of peas and butter beans and shelled them till my fingers bled. I assume I can get in on the reparations, because so far, all I got was the aforementioned dresser.
