Any icechest will work a million times better if you "pre-cool" it. First thing that happens when you put ice in an icechest full of hot air is the ice has to pull all that heat off the air in the icechest which will melt it. Then if the stuff you put in it isn't cold, it will have to take all that heat off as well. Put cold stuff in a cold icechest and all the ice has to do is take off the heat that gets in when you open it and the little bit that comes through the insulation.

Unfortunately, not all of us have walk in coolers at our house to put our icechests in the day before we need them.

I drained the cooler, took the beers out, and put a 20 lb bag of ice in there last night. I am going to drain the water this afternoon after work, throw some cold beers and fresh ice in there and see how long it lasts. Just sort of testing things out. Going down to the beach next weekend for Memorial Day and want to make sure I have it right before we take it out on the boat.
