A couple of weeks ago I de-thatched my yard and it is slowly filling in but not really growing much. I think it is time to drop some fertilizer on it. What should I use? Thanks.

I posted this in the spring weed guide thread, but I'm just looking for an answer.

I fertilized yesterday evening around 6:30pm. The rain won't be hitting here today until around 4:00pm today. Will my grass be ok waiting that long for water or do I need to go ahead and water it a little bit at lunch to avoid the fertilizer burning it?

Just making sure you're in La. People are losing their minds over their yards right not but we've had way too many little cold spells. No one's grass, unless you're one of those strict yard regiment people, is 100% growing right now. We'll hit another spell this weekend so everyone that put down weed & feed or fertilizer is starting to get antsy. By this time next month your yard will be back to it's normal self.

It's usually a good idea to water it right away to get it off the blades.

So, don't put down fertilizer?

The yard gurus will probably tell you otherwise but this weekend may be a bad one to put it down. The amount of rain we're expecting followed by the 3 day stretch of cool temps doesn't really jive with fresh fertilizer. Temps are expected back up into the 80s later next week so that's when I'm fertilizing. We should done with the cold spells after this weekend.

I can wait, but I still need to know what to put down. Last year I bought 13-13-13 I think because I had a nitrogen deficiency according to LSU. My grass wasn't very green. It had a yellow tint to it.

If they are calling for heavy rain don’t fertilize because of the chance of runoff. Cold temps are better than warm temps though. Nitrogen gasses of in warm temp if it doesn’t have rain to get it in the soil.

We're expected to get nailed tomorrow. I definitely wouldn't put anything down today or tomorrow.

Scott’s Southern Pro turf builder. I know it’s expensive but i have consistently had better results with this brand.

I guess I will water it down at lunch then. I thought the rain would get here sooner today, but it keeps getting pushed back.
