An experienced crew with a rope is much preferable to a rig hook. They are very dangerous except in the calmest waters. They have been known to pop off and fly back into the boat breaking things or people. They are also known to get hung up as evidenced in the posts above. If you dont have anything to place an eye loop around on the rig then carry enough rope to loop over a pipe, etc using a rope gaff and tie each end of the rope to a bow cleat. Take your time tying up and try not to yell at the wife if she is your crew. If you are doing the driving watch the rig and not the rope tying. We regularly tie off in 3-5' seas and never use a rig hook. I do value a rope gaff though

1" EMT bent into a hook. Hammer other end flat, drill a hold and attach a small d ring with a rope and bungee.
I made one for a buddy in about 5 minutes a couple months ago for about $10

Just don’t use thin wall conduit if you make one. It will break and/or bent in somewhat rough seas. Throw hook with a wire release works good. If you have access to a threader you can make the hook in multiple piece to store easier. PVC will absolutely snap within minutes unless it’s slack with no wind.

I have found that a 2 gal jug full of water on a rope thrown over a brace is far better than a rig hook for many reasons.
IDGAF if I lose it, it will ride up and down a bit taking the jar out of sea action on a hook, and it is far easier to remove and if this will not hold you it is too rough for a hook anyway.
Depending on boat size a 1 gal may suit you better.
I would give you my hook if you were local.

Why not just learn how to throw the rope to tie off instead of being a pussy
