So scoring a deer is a matter of opinion huh? Yep that's quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard. I hope you really didn't mean that. I assumed we were referring to the Boone and Crockett scoring system since we weren't told otherwise. If you follow the proper steps the score wouldnt differ more than an inch or so between guys that had two brain cells. You seem to be really new to this but it's really simple to measure a deer unless it's a crazy non typical.
If your deer has been scored between 155 and 170 and it's not a crazy non typical then bring it to me and I'll let you know what it scores.
These threads definitely show who knows deer and who doesn't. Every single person I know that I consider awesome hunters and outdoorsman can judge a deers score from a picture. Provided that it's a good view.
But anyway who cares about actual measurements, all my bucks score 300"s because that's my opinion!!

Posted by Rebman601 Yours ain't 133 then. You know scoring a deer isn't about just throwing out numbers. You can actually get pretty close to its measurements by eyeballing it and then add them up.
Yes asshat. I'm just pulling numbers out of my arse. That's why three different people scored it and all came within 1/2 inch of each other. As previously stated, I'm eyeballing a picture on a phone of a 40 year old mount and may be a bit off. But bite me, regardless.

Not really trying to ruffle your feathers, but yes, even between two different boone and crocket scorers a deer can differ greatly. Then when you take into account that most hunters have never even met a boone and crocket certified scorer and have their the measurements done by taxidermists and billy bob down at the local sporting goods store, you can have deer that vary greatly in their score. You may be Daniel fricking Boone, I don't know. I know that I've killed more deer then fricking blue tongue and I've seen more then a hell of a lot scored in every manner you can imagine. Do I know what I'm talking about? Probably not, but I can clean a skillet head on the ground in the dark in 5 min flat without getting a leaf on her delicious arse.
I don't know what relevance that last part had, but I thought I would add it.

Now this ole boy wanted a guestimate on what his paw paws deer would score. I'm guessing his paw paw came from the same era that my paw paw came from and that man wouldn't give two fricks
Yep, that was definitely how my grandfather was. Hunting was what he did. He spent everyday of hunting season in the woods because he loved it. He taught me, my brother, and all my cousins how to shoot and how to hunt. He did it caused he enjoyed it. If it didn't have antlers, he didn't shoot at it and saved his doe tags for the kids. If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have the love for hunting and fishing that I have today.
I want to hang on to this mount if I can, to go along with the shotgun he left me when he passed away. If I can get it I may get it redone but I may just keep it like it is.
I know it's hard to give a rough estimate based on a picture but just wanted to see some opinions before I get it scored by someone. I'll have to update the thread when I get it done though so we can see how close all y'all were.
Thanks for all the opinions and input.
