Got my arse kicked last night again. Two lines set twice with smaller hooks, no turtles.

Two lines were carried to bank. They're there. So was a big arse water snake that scared the shite outta me around 9pm.

Caught T4 (turtle 4) tonight. The stake/string thing works.

I'll post pics Sat, have an early flight to Tampa for work in the morning.

I had seen the video you posted but Im glad you posted it. It's pretty amazing how those guys were basically relocating giant turtles.
I'd be a little hesitant to grab those big frickers like he did.

T4 on right. He is a mean bastard. I thought he was much bigger. Today was the first time I got to take a good look at him in daylight.

Both turtles pictured are males. Of the four I caught, only one was a female.

Don't give up. Ive had to switch/refine my tactics for the last month now.

ETA: Those things are tough to catch. They'd be extinct by now if they weren't.

I've got to pay more attention to the road instead of looking for turtle spots. I'm gonna end up dead.

If so, I hereby will you my turtles.

Gaston and MDCajuntiger know where my place is, in case of single car accident and subsequent fatality.

I picked up this for 5 bucks at a local farmers' action yesterday. Very few people even knew what it was.

It's cheap but will work. I need to order some springs to put on the trap door. It can work without them but ensures the won't get out should the trap roll.

I may make a couple like this too. They're stackable and easy to move. The nets I use are stackable but to use them I have to put those pvc pipes to keep them open so it takes longer to set up/bait and break down/throw any remaining (rank) bait.

I think you got a helluva steal at $5.
Are you setting the traps on the bottom of the pond?
Cooters are more prone to get caught in floating/surface traps, whereas the snappers will remain on the bottom for the most part.

I set them on the bottom but I can only go so deep to where they aren't submerged. I even said eff it last night and threw two in farther, leaving them under.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.

I'd leave them all the way under and completely submerged. Less cooters that way.
Your desperation throws may be the best ones yet!
Your persistence will pay off.
