Probably because me and and another poster were going to gradschool to become psychotherapists. Im still conflicted about med school. DrTyger says I should because then I would be a real doctor but the loan debt is staggering and all the insurance and other bs you guys have to carry. I just dont know.

Or it could be the fact that just about every third poster here is an actual MD.

OK this concerns me.

My daughter is considering her doctorate. Forget the loan debt. would you go on to get your Dr. if money was not a consideration?

Definately if money isn't a consideration. I think the MD is worth the money. I just look at it like and investment. I've had some pretty damn good investments over the years, but none have given me anywhere near the return I've gotten on my education.

sign of the times my friend, sign of the times..

when the consumers almost out weigh the producers something has to give, I have a feeling a things are going to come to a boiling point within the next 4-5 years.. (probably sooner)

i feel bad for my little sister going into her 4th year of vet school.. the market is just so damn over saturated and it is just going to get worse.. the only thing saving her for the time being is her gracious daddy who will be able to take her under his wing for proper tutelage

Serious question.

Why would you not do it?

Are you looking at long term?
Is this your dream job?

Probably. The path is certainly shorter. They can do every thing a PhD can do and write perscriptions without having to go the the process which concerns having to get another Masters. A lot of people interested in Psychotherapy short cut the path and go for a terminal masters because the research demands are so heavy. Looking at 5-7 years for a PhD plus a year internship. Oh and if you dont have undergraduate research experience you can pretty much add three more years to the total.

My buddy has his PhD in Mass Com. He didnt get his first real job until he was in his 30's and he cant buy a job in academia with all the cutbacks despite having been published in several major publications.

Forgot to say that he was also a finalist for a Rhodes Scholarship.

Despite the golden tower perception if you actually know people who reside in academia you understand its as cutthroat as politics. And once you get terminated from a position its much harder to break back in.

I look at this way too.

I will be old and slipping around in piss at the old folks home and hoping that I will be taken care of.

He felt like he was being watched by the CIA. He got scared he had a little too much ammunition storage.

Just keep trying. From what I remember, your grades and MCAT are pretty good. I know here ties go to the person that has applied before. That's coming from someone on the admissions committee.
