I’m looking to buy a set for hunting. I have poor cell service at the camp so phones are not an option. I’m looking for some that do not beep when you press the button to talk and do not beep when you turn them on. Any suggestions?

When we hunted areas with no cell service, the Motorolla Talkabouts where what we used. Put them in an inside coat pocket and use the single ear piece with the Push To talk mic.

I have just bought the talkabouts. You can bluetooth them to your cellphone and text back and forth. Your cellphone will use them like a modem of sorts.
Tested them here at the house and they worked. Heading to the ranch in the morning. I'll report back with some real world use on Sunday or Monday.

Ok, back from the ranch.

Overall I would definitely recommend t800 Motorola Talkabouts.

We hunt in west Texas Chihuanhuan Desert. No trees.
Thursday morning my daughter and I hunted stands about 1/2 mile apart. I could see her stand and she could see where I was sitting on the ground. Texting worked as advertised. Worked great. Thursday night worked great.

Friday morning not so good. We were on channel 7. Channel 7 is a popular channel to use. Channels 1 thur 7 are supposed to be a little higher power for transmitting calls or texting. We would try a send a text and it would say "retry". Like it wouldn't go thur. But later we figured out it actually did go thru on about 90% of the time it said "retry". A message would also pop up and say that our channel (7) was experiencing interference or bluetooth was dropped and to reconnect. Also we would send a text and 20 or 25 messages would actually send of that particular message.

Where we hunt Friday morning starts the mule deer season. Lots of people came out Thursday and Friday to hunt. I was thinking maybe others were using walkie talkies on 7 and that may have caused the problems. We are also 3 or so miles from the Texas/Mexico border on the Rio Grand. Maybe Border patrol could have been some of the interference. Idk.

So Saturday we changed to channel 4. Like magic no more problems. Only a couple of times we would get the retry message. We sent a lot of texts. I was impressed.

Remember we hunt in open terrain. No trees. A few times my daughter would hunt around the other side of a pretty good hill. Still worked great. Farthest distance was close to a mile.

As a parent it was very comforting to be able to communicate with your kid while hunting. No more wondering if they safely got to the stand. You can remind them of this or that.
Ask them if they are seeing anything are the ready to go etc. And of course kids have all kinds of questions. Like "Dad I here something on the roof of the stand" "Dad something this something that". "Can I shoot the javelina?" If you hear someone shoot you can ask "was that you?

I liked them so much I am going to buy two more.
Happy hunting!
