Using Mercury gear lube in a Yamaha outboard?

Is is OK to use Mercury Marine Quicksilver High-Performance Gear Lube in the lower gear case of a Yamaha 4-stroke engine?

Sure, both very high quality gear oils. But, why not buy the Yamalube?

it’s gear lube. And quicksilver is a very reliable brand

I'm thinking about using the Mercury lube because my neighbor offered to give me a couple of quarts. Thanks for the responses.

If it has Mercury on the label then I'd not buy it. Go with Lucas Synthetic Gear Oil. Your Yamaha engine will thank you.

Yes. Most of that stuff made by same major big name oil companies and just rebranded for the label.

After a quick google search I think Citgo processes both of them.
