I noticed termite tunnels on a maple in my backyard. They go up to a hole in the side of the tree where a large limb was removed long ago. The tree holds water that the squirrels drink out of. Tree seems healthy and newly infested.

I am wondering how best to treat the tree. Any suggestions?

I’d guess, like any termite treatment, if subterranean, they go back in the ground. Don’t know about the tree holding water. Try to keep the water out of the tree. They make a product, I’ve used before:

What is Disyston used for?
DI-SYSTON systemic insecticide enters the plant by absorption through the roots. The insecticide placed near the roots is translocated to all parts of the plant and kills sucking insects feeding on the tree.
