Snook is twice as good as specs with the same ease of cleaning and way more yield. Best inshore eating fish imo.

Never eaten one but man they are fun to catch!

Yes it would be awesome if both they and tarpon would make it into the Southern Louisiana lakes and marshes!!

There's been a few permit and at lease one bonefish caught in that area as well in the past few years.

Permit and bonefish are fairly common in the florida panhandle and Gulf Shores / Orange Beach. I don't know about bonefish but permit are pretty common on the Mississippi coast. It has to be something do with the River and water quality in Louisiana if permit and bonefish are rare or unheard of. Neither permit nor bonefish get very big in the area but they are there and they are fairly common....if you surf fish during Pompano season about every 20th fish might be a permit and every 50th a bonefish...but very small. I suspect a big drum of any color would smack a 6-10 inch bonefish flat lined in the surf...I know snook will where its legal....snook will also smack a small snook I am told...as will tarpon and cubrera snapper, or so I am told....

Never caught a snook I take it. Would never fish for either of those again if I could only choose one.

I have to agree...snook are a lot like miniature (and if youre lucky not so miniature) Tarpon..they act a fool when hooked. Reds are fun to catch but they do not put on a show like snook do....and trout ain't close. And neither is as good to eat...nothing wrong with either but sewer trout (Snook to older offshore fishermen) are DELICOUS....and to be honest I have never seen reds or trout stacked up like snook will get in some areas....i have seen acres of redfish and miles of snook in comparison. Where the popoluation is healthy it is not uncommon to catch 32-38 inch fish on every cast and have 2 or 4 trying to take the bait out of the hooked fishes mouth. I have seen the entire sonar screen blacked out by masses of snook as far the eye could see in water so clear you can look over the side of the boat and see them stacked like chord wood. I know reds will bunch up i just ain't seen bunch up in numbers like snook will, again, when the population is healthy.

They are good eating for sure but so are the various snapper and grouper that often frequent the same habitat. Permit is also good...people who eat them regularly claim they are better than snook...I like permit but it has a strange texture...almost more like pork than fish. Very good but snook is hard to beat....I think Permit is the best eating jack including amberjack and yellowtail

A couple summers ago my nephew caught a juvenile bonefish in orange beach. I’ve also heard snook are occasionally caught in Venice. I went to Jupiter a month ago and we caught some mice snook. They fight great. Didn’t keep any because they were out of season, but am told they taste great
