As I was pulling out of the car wash this weekend, my skeg dragged the pavement. There was a steep drop off exiting the parking lot. It scratched the bottom but there aren't any chips or dents. Do I need to bring to a repair place to have them check the outboard? I am more worried about the sudden jolt that was created on lower unit.

just change out the lower unit oil. Run the old oil through a strainer, and check for any metal shavings.

LOL I don't think I've ever owned a motor for more than one year that didn't have a torn up/bent skeg.

Nah, these are all smaller boats/duck hunting stuff.

Not sure how big your boat is.

Oh, wait, I skint one up on a ski boat we had once. Wasn't that bad, except for the tennis elbow I contracted while trying to make right turns.

J/K...do what the poster ahead of me said, he seems to know what's up.
