My little one is just now old enough to fish with in our 5 acre neighborhood pond. But we can't really do more than about 30 minutes at a time because of the heat and misery.

I saw those clamp-on umbrella things on Academy online but I'm looking more for a solution that provides a little more shade but won't necessarily tip us over with a little wind gust.

Any ideas?

Take your kid somewhere to fish with shade. Not sure where you’re located but there’s a lot of places to fish under I10 and I55 so you’re shaded by the bridge. Bream school up under there, fun for the kids and not hot

Long pants
Long sleeve shirt
Full brim hat
Drink plenty water.

Cover up from the sun and you'll be cooler. I fish in 90 degree weather with no issue.

Get up earlier and/or fish from 5-8.

They make folding bimini tops, but can be harder to paddle sometimes. but if just floating for the most part in a pond, the main issue would be fishing

My son is 3. He doesn’t say he gets too hot, I have to monitor that for him and call it a day when I can tell he’s getting overheated.

Just being a responsible parent. Not trying to win a redneck toughness contest.

Thanks aubie, that is the same one I referenced in op. Seems to be the only ready-made solution. That’s probably what I’ll go with. I am disappointed the OB didn’t have more ingenuity to offer!
