This almost calls for a spin off thread about trot lines
Yeah, sorry about jacking your thread to hell and thanks for being a good sport about it.

To steer it back on topic, in the end, you did a good thing. I wouldn't put my hand on a line moving though.

UNLESS, if you ever go the the Red River and see some on the buoys you can check those and have any fish you find on them. Bend any and all hooks and take off any weights.

Phuck it, next time I'll just cut 'em down, throw them in a bucket and put them on the nearest launch so don't leave them phuckers hanging if you're not fishing them- you don't own the trees.

Fine by me. Darbonne lake makes you have name and address on them. I think that is a good fair idea.

When I was a kid in Mississippi, me and my dad would run lines every weekend on Dog River. However, he always told me that the law in Mississippi was that 10 feet of cotton line had to be placed on each end of the line. This was because cotton line would rot pretty fast and self cut abandoned lines. Seems like a good idea to me and I still run lines and never, ever, leave on hanging.

I was just joking with Alex but THAT is a good idea. It's mandatory at Chicot too.

To the OP good deed.
To the other posters talking about trotlines.
In lake D'Arbone I like the rules they have.
no more than 3 trot lines per person. You must place your name, address, phone number and date on every line, and you must have a cotton leader.

It is stupid that people leave trot lines unattended. I think that these rules should be adopted statewide. There is nothing worse than coming across a trotline with 10 dead fish floating on top.
