Sandbar camping on Red River(shreveport area)

Would like to go camping this spring, but don't really have the time to take off work and get up to AR. Anyone know of a nice sandbar on the red? My boats range is probably 1 hour(30 down, 30 back) I realize that the levels of the river change but anyone ever found a good one?

There are plenty of sandbars just north or just south of the hwy 2 bridge launch. I would just launch there, start running either direction and find one.
Be careful running north because the river is super shallow up there, but it can be done without much fuss, especially in a small boat.

We done it several times around Ellic. Just ride till you find one. Usually plenty to pick from.

There is a good spot in front of the barge turnaround right across the river from Red River South. Another spot is 1/2 North of downtown on the Bossier side where the river makes a hard swing around the downtown airport.

Like they said, just pick a direction and run till you find one. Really depends on the water levels.

You really have to be careful with this. The sand bars on the Red can be tricky. sometimes the water comes up over night. Also some bars have a shelf that extends out without much support. A couple of years back a whole family was out on one swimming when the shelf collapsed, I think 4 of the kids drowned.

The easiest one to get to would definately be the one palo mentioned next to barge turnaround.
Just launch at Red River South, when you leave the oxbow, shoot directly across main river and you are there. You should be able to blast the white bass off of it also.
Its a popular spot for the white sunglasses gang to hang out at on the weekends so keep that in mind.
There are a few on both sides of Jimmy Davis bridge also, but that might be closer to civilization than you are looking for.
