The OD board and it posters have been very helpful in the past with getting Nerd Guy and myself up and running during duck season this year. I am now returning with a few question about fishing. We have explored many areas easily accessible by jon boat and trolling motor... henderson swamp, some on False river, ... Recently I brought down my bass boat to Baton Rouge and have it in tip top shape... (97 Nitro 700LX, 120 HP for those interested) We are looking to venture down to Lake Verret this weekend. I am an experience fisherman. I fished for years in WV off the bank, on a bass boat, and wading...

Here are some of our questions:
How much will the lake be impacted by the flooding?

What is the best launch to use to access Lake Verret when leaving Baton Rouge? I have heard of Attakapas landing. How much is it? Is there a better landing in Pierre Part? And Launch fees?

Anything i need to know or should watch for on this lake? (Depth fluctuations, lots of submerged trees/debris,...)

And from your suggested launch, good fishing locations for bass or crappie and maybe good bait choices.

TIA

Attakapas is free...its an easy launch...but the Bass fishing has been good north of Pierre part not a lot of keepers but decent numbers. Water is rising so fishing will be slow. Catfish may be your best bet. cypress trees on the southside of the main lake was holding decent catfish and brim when I was there last.

You might want to call the local sheriffs office to make sure they are going to allow boat traffic this weekend. I'm not sure when it's going to get to that point but it will in the next week or so

Catfish will be your best bet.

That lake is very shallow, so it'll get nasty with very little wind. There's lots of stumps around the edges as well.

Other than that, it's a good place to go. Probably my favorite place to fish. Bass fishing is tough because they have to be 14" to keep, and you'll catch plenty 13.5"

The bream fishing is usually good this time of year, but it probably slacking off due to the water.

Catfish in the lake all up in the cypress trees is the easiest and gives you the best chance to fill up the icechest.

I like to put in at the Bayou Corne landing and fish dead end canals around grand bayou.

Almost all of Belle River is now an idle zone.If you go i would fish in the canals off Crackerhead and in the lake itself.

I haven't been there in a few weeks so I don't know what the water is like.

Under normal conditions, I'd fish the bayous around the lake for bass, bream, and sacs. Northeast side usually does good. Crackerhead, Ike, Alcide, etc.

For catfish I always fish the cypress tress in the lake around the edges.

The lake is shallow though. A little bit of wind will make it rough as hell. I'd launch on the side you're gonna fish on so you don't have to run across the lake if it gets windy.

Can you maybe give a better description of where Crackerhead, Ike, and Alcide are on lake Verret? There appears to be a launch in the middle of Pierre Part. Has anyone launched there? Its on S Bay RD and leads out to Pierre Bay.

That launch is Gaudet's. There's an old woman who owns it and is out there every morning collecting money and helping people launch. That's where I usually launch.
