Use softscape. It's more expensive than a bale of pine straw but never loses its color. Then you just have to touch up with a few bags each year rather than redo the beds. Just dont get the red dyed color. Pine straw looks great until it turns grey then it's hideous.

Gomez pine straw delivers at $6/bale with a $10 delivery fee. I will never buy pine straw anywhere else again.

pinestraw mulch is very common here in MS....
advantages are that it is inexpensive, works well to keep weeds down, and doesn't attract termites.
disadvantages are that it fades pretty quickly and doesn't look as good as wood mulch...

Wood mulch is termite bait. Even knew somebody that had them already in the mulch when he bought it. Pine straw is the way to go my friend.

To each their own, but that was the problem I had with buying it out the trailer at home depot. Along with red ants.

Yikes, its $5 installed around here(Atl). anywhere from 3.25-4.25 per bale otherwise
