For a cheap gun the Yildiz aren't bad. I made the staff at Academy open all they had and I bought the one with the best wood. Refinished with Truoil and it looks spectacular. I know it won't hold up like a Browning or Beretta but for an occasional dove hunt/clay shoot it will be fine. A Beretta O/U is one of my bucket list guns.

Are there any pros to a 28g over a 12g or 20g?

28ga is considered a ‘square load’ and is widely thought to be the most effecient of the gauges (along with the 16). A true 28ga sized shotgun is delightful for quick handling shots at quail and rabbits. It is considered the ‘connoisseur’s gauge’ by many.

Shot load for 28ga = 3/4oz
Shot load for 20ga = 7/8oz

A box of 28ga shells runs about $9.99 at Academy.

I wouldn’t purchase a 12ga OU personally. To me the appeal of a break action shotgun is in its handling, which is advantage 20 or 28.

Pick you out a beretta o/u. They are the best for the money and work flawlessly, assuming you want a field grade gun. The 20 or 28 is probably the best long term choice. You can shoot them at high volume opportunities and can shoot them later in life. Also make better youth guns when handed down. Just a few things to think about. Good luck!
