So 4 of us made our annual goose trip on MLK weekend. This year we switched things up and headed to Frederick, Ok to hunt with Finish Line Outdoors. Great group of guys! We were joined in camp and in the blind by a couple of the owner's buddies. They were great guys as well, both in the blind and at camp.
The hunting was pretty different from our passed hunts in Kansas. On 2 of the hunts, we put out large spreads of Dive Bomb snow rags and Canada silhouettes. We laid in the spread wearing white Tyvek suits. We also hunted out of an AvianX a-frame blind for 2 hunts. We used full body snow, speck and Canada decoys for one hunt and just Canada silhouettes for our evening duck hunt.
Day one, highlighted in this video, we ended up with 36 lesser Canada geese and 14 Widgeon. Sorry for the poor camera angle.
Day 2 and 3 were tough hunts. The wind quit day 2 and got really overcast. Day 3, the geese went to the other end of the field. We did get 4 geese, 2 Widgeon day 2, and 2 geese, 4 Widgeon day 3.
We had an evening Mallard hunt in a dry corn field. We killed 6 Mallards. The birds did show up but they were about 10 minutes late. We stuck around to film the show. Here's the video. It is unedited footage. It was an amazing show!
We also visited Wichita Moutain Refuge about an hour north of the camp. The refuge has been set aside for American Bison, Rocky mountain Elk and Texas Longhorns. Merriam's Elk were native to the area, but sadly they were killed off. They have the truest Texas Longhorn bloodlines in the country.
We saw a ton of Bison, Longhorns and Elk. There is also a Prairie Dog town on the refuge. There were some monster bull Elk 100 yards from the road as we were leaving. One of the guys got some great pics, but I don't have them to post.
Anyway, we are in the process of booking again for next year. Hope you enjoy!!

The free range place, is that Medicine Park?... I have family that lives in Altus/Lawton and I'm pretty sure that's the same place they took me to.

I had a great trip!
To let everyone know what kind of guy Chris is, we were supposed to pay extra for that evening duck hunt but when it came to settling up, even though we had killed six mallards, he refused to charge us!
He said ,”I’m not charging you to go bird watching!”
We would have happily paid for that hunt. Incredible!

I’ pretty sure we were looking down on Medicine Park from the top of Mount Scott in the Refuge.
Fantastic place.

Yeah, that's it. We hunted all over that area. We did make it to Altus the day we arrived.

Pretty place. I went to mount Scott as a kid all the time . Remember eating a meers burger at the restaurant with a earthquake meter in it too.

ETA: I don’t know if the restaurant is still open but it was the best burger I’ve ever had.

Also one of the most dense population of Rio Grande turkeys along the Salt Fork prong up there. Used to have a ranch in TX right next to Wichita Mountain/Altus. Jumped Mallards off a puddle one May, and thought they were lost before your post.
