The mechanic told me the "electric packs" needed to be replaced and that it would be cheaper to buy a new motor.
I am not a mechanic but I have had motor problems over the years and I say bullshite to that.
I agree with other posters, If it is doing this when it gets hot it is likely a cracked gasket or line that is allowing air in or it could be an electrical part like a stator that is arching off. I have had both of those issues.
Plus what does a complete power pack cost for a 25 Yamaha 200-250 bucks? Replaced one on my 70 Evinrude for 300 last year. A new 25 is like 3 grand.

I have had a bad fuel pump do the same thing too, so check that out as well. In the end if your mechanic can do a compression test on your cylinders and they are fine then your motor is worth fixing, but OB motor life span is salt water area is what ten fifteen years before overhaul.

The other guys on here really know their shite btw and helped me fix mine last year. Please post back when u get it fixed so we all know and can learn from it.
