I have always borrowed one of my father in law’s guns when we have gone hunting together but while I was visiting family for Thanksgiving my Uncle mentioned he had a Mossberg 935 12 gauge he bought thinking he would get into duck and goose hunting in Illinois but never ended up going. I bought it off him for $300, which when looking online seems like a decent deal for a gun that has not really been used. Has anyone shot this gun? It looks like from reading about it people either love or hate it.

I never shot this gun, but I did have a couple of 835s. Never had a lick of problems with either before I traded them in. For Christmas in 1970, I was given a Model 500. I've kept that one, and have never had any problems with it either.

Mossberg's go bang as well as any other gun, they're just not as refined as more expensive options, tend to rattle more, and take a little more time to clean. Just my $0.02. You didn't get a great deal, but not a bad deal either.

I had a hunting partner several years ago who shot one. Can't say it gave him problems but that was one of the noisiest rattling guns I ever touched. The fore end/stock would move about 1/4" sideways, each way. Not a big deal when duck hunting until the guy would start rattling it as sort of a nervous habit.

I have an 835 that I bought years ago. Hunted it hard in the marsh (went 2 years before cleaning once) never had the first problem with that gun. Also used it as a paddle several times. As others have said...nothing fancy, just goes bang.
