Have had this one on camera all summer. First got pics in July and he was way behind in stage of antler growth than others and now he is one of the last to shed velvet. Makes me think he was a late fawn. Anyway, he has packed on some pounds in the last week. Between me feeding and acorns I’m liking the way he looks. Still getting daytime pics although not as frequently.

Have this one also that looks pretty good. Hard to tell but he is a clean 10 also. When this deer was grown all the way out, the previous one posted had only grown his main beam out to G3s

I’m guessing both are 4 year olds but really have no idea. Either way they would both be personal best for me with a bow.

Both are good looking dear especially the 1st one, I would say both are 4 year olds.

You quit messing with the cows and made your property a fulltime hunting place?

Nice deer. How many acres are you hunting?

No still have cows. Have them on 100 acres in the front of the place and then the other 260 acres is wooded with plots. We don’t plant any though. My cows got out last spring and went about 2 miles onto the neighbor. Was able to see what his plots look like and realized what I can afford to plant isn’t going to do any good for attracting deer. Instead we just try to limit pressure and hunt smart. Bow season is the only time baiting works and I’ve decided that if I get either of these deer this year I won’t bait again just to challenge myself further. Already have a stand of white oaks picked out for next year.

I am considering selling the cows next spring and focusing on better stands and plots. Can only afford to lose money on one hobby at a time

Get your soil right and plant plotspike forage feast or forage complete and they will come. A very good product and not that expensive and is made and tested here in LA. Or if the neighbor is a big land owner make your place a bedding and transition area.

Yea with a commercial mix herd the goal is usually just to break even most of the time.

Same here. Our neighbors spend a small fortune doing plots. They are constantly in and out, 4 wheelers. Excessive trimming , moving huge arse box stands around.....etc. we don’t plant at all anymore. Bush hog where needed mid September, otherwise we let grow and increase cover. We stay out and walk when practical. I do use 4 wheeler for hauling corn, I have 2 stands that have feeders and I ain’t crayying 200 lbs of corn. I have 4 cameras out and it’s about a 2 mile trek to check them every couple of weeeks but I enjoy the excercise. We kill more bigger deer than they do every year. I’m sure they see more deer but we seem to keep the bigger bucks core areas undisturbd and see them more during daylight.. Even in non rut. Good luck to everyone this season. Be safe
