Timber prices on the whole in SW MS generally suck. Out forester said only money worth even contemplating is hardwood logs. Pine prices, especially pulpwood, are pathetic. Our family refuse to cut our hardwood and we aren’t giving away pulpwood. Our last clear cut will be returned to pasture.

LSUintheNW, you have no idea what you are talking about. We currently have 47 years worth of production on the ground - there are more trees than we can use. Prices cant get any lower and mills are on quotas. Lumber prices have little to do with cost of raw timber.
At times this year we could not give hardwood away, there was no market. Pine we were paying 12 to 14$ a ton for in 2010, gets 5 to 7$ a ton now. - if we have a place to sell it.
Lumber prices have virtually nothing to do with timber prices.

Just did a select cut in SW MS - here are the prices I got:
Pine Chip & Saw - $10/ton
Pine Pulpwood - $3/ton
Pine Sawtimber - $24/ton
We have been trying to do a select cut for 2 years, so we just needed it done and didn't really care about the prices, per se, but they are really low for sure.
