I use the long shank too. Makes it easier to remove the hook if the fish swallows it.

Catching bream is about as easy as fishing gets.

One caveat to this-

Sometimes they just have lockjaw. I can't tell you how many times I've tried to sight-fish them around docks and boat ramps, you can see them schooled up, and they won't take anything. Don't even acknowledge it. I assumed some of those type of fish were semi-domesticated and hook shy, so often I'd toss just the bait out, no hook, no line, no bobber, just toss out a worm or dough ball or cricket, and they still wouldn't take it. One commonality in all those situations was it was hot, it was summer, it was clear, it was late afternoon in the heat of the day. Sometimes the bluegill just shut down.

I always fish bream in the summer when they are bedding. You can see them then. Spinning rod with small hook, split shot, and bobber is the gear. Get a bucket of crickets and you are in business.

Using #6’s for sacs will also keep your minnows alive longer and let them move a lot more since the hook is lighter

#8 is smaller than a #6.

Although, when minnow fishing for crappie, you are more likely to hook into something larger than anticipated than when cricket/worm fishing for bluegill (though that can happen too).

mee too. The few days surrounding a full moon are best. May though August.

If I ever decide to give up on fishing and just want to cheat I might get a livescope and try for deep bream in the winter and early fall.

I know that. I don’t use #8s on crappie though. I guess you could. They just seem too small to me
