Renting a cabin for my son's birthday and will do a little fishing from the pier by the cabin. What kind of fish are we looking at here? Crappie? Will we catch enough to have a little fry? Or just catch and release?

Be sure to bring some noodles to run catfish lines from. It's easier to run them from a kayak, IMO, and the kids love being so close to the action. You don't have to reach all the way down to the water to pick up the lines.

Make sure you let your kids know to be cool around those piers. People have been feeding them gators for a long time and they come right up to the pier every time someone is standing on it
