Dear Capt. Paul:

I’m looking for maps/charts that would show the oil
and gas structures in Lake Borgne for fishing purposes.

Do you have any recommendations for a source?

Yes I do !

The Capt. Paul’s Fishing Edge of GPS Waypoints for the Lake Borgne area has over 160 GPS waypoints in and around the lake area, of which over 40 of these waypoints are present oil/gas platforms or of locations were these platforms were once located in the lake itself.

Many of the Lake Borgne platforms were removed when the exploration was finished or when the sites were linked to other collection platforms.

These locations, however, because of the aggregate that was placed around the well sites, are capable of still being fish-producing areas.

The sites that were removed are mainly in open water, with the only marker being their GPS waypoint positions. The Edge file for Lake Borgne give you the “edge” in finding and fishing these locations.

The Edge files consist of a data file of the waypoints, written in the file protocol that can be downloaded into most of the more common consumer brands of GPS units, a spreadsheet file that offers the user a means of “sorting” the locations, an Acrobat (.pdf) file that covers a general map of the area where the respective waypoints are located, description pages of the waypoints and, of course, an instruction file to assist you in downloading and using the respective files.

These locations were determined by prior experience, old state and parish permits and by gas-industry information. Many of the information sources on these old sites are no longer publicly available.
