Does anybody have any experience with the 5065's? My dad has been looking at downsizing from our old 4020 to one of these.

4020 what a beast. Got one parked in my barn right now for all my plowing and discing needs.

Our 4020 is a '65, I think he mainly wants something else because it has been breaking down more and more recently.

It's a good machine.
All the older (and newer big machines) have that john deere "feel" to them. the newer, smaller machines don't. but still good tractors

I would have struggled if I farmed back in the day. I got sinus issues when it gets dusty. I couldn't handle the open cab stuff everyday. I always get a little cold when we start harvesting.
We have a 5065 on the farm. It's a nice little utility tractor to have for odd jobs around the shop yard.

ive used a couple of 5000 series in the 2000-2007 range but I can't remember which ones. used forks, loader bucket, grader box, bush hog, and a couple of hay machines. pretty solid tractor. I found the front end loader to be a little weak and the arse end to be a little light but I was probably trying to lift to much with it.

I had the same issues with a 5320.

I've spent a pile of hours on a 5000 series 4x4 50 horse with a front end loader. It was light in the arse and could have definitely used water in the tires, but it had plenty of power in the right places in the powerband and was an incredibly good woods tractor. A 12' batwing was about all it wanted when the grass was thick, but I think that's a little much to ask of a tractor that size anyway.
It was very easy and comfortable to work and the sync shuttle is DEFINITELY a necessity. The one I worked on mostly has a sync reverse with a straight shift and it was pretty good, but it had oddly spaced ratios and required a good bit of range shifting when doing things like moving hay or bushogging. Overall I'd say it was a very pleasant machine to use for the 6 or 7 years I was on it.

We had a 5065E and traded for a 5075M. No problems at all out of the 5065 just wanted the extra hp and liked all the features of the M series over the E. The E series tractors also have a 3cyl engine compared to the 4cyl on the M. They have a total different sound which makes no diff just saying they don't sound the same.
