Does anybody have any experience with these? I'm thinking about putting one in my backyard, but I heard they were difficult to grow. I don't want to spend money on one if it's going to die or look like crap in the south Louisiana heat. Any tips would be appreciated. TIA.

Never had an issue with the previous 3. The one I currently have did die on me but came back from the roots the following spring.

Pretty trees, but they grow slowly. That's why one of decent size is a few hundred bucks.

They do best in partial-sun-to-partial-shade locations, but I've seen some out in the sun doing fine.

LSU AgCenter has a decent article on them. They mention that south Louisiana is at the southern end of their territory. LINK
