That’s a freaking bitch, I think those mfers have been known to eat dogs and attack people.

They have indeed been known to attack people and pets. They get HUGE! They are fun to catch and surprisingly good eating, at least at 30-40 pounds. I never caught a huge one but a lake close to where we lived in Germany was a destination for all of Germany to target HUGE Wells.

I wouldn't bet that the picture ain't photo shopped. The boat in that picture would be rare if non-existent in Europe...they use a lot of vee bottomed aluminum boats but flat bottomed boats are almost unknown. I did see a Ranger bass boat in Livorno Italy once so anything is possible....

That is also sort or abnormal...mercuries or yamahas or more prevalent. It also looks like a Minn Kota trolling motor. That's be HIGHLY unusual...not unhear of but the Australian TMs are more prevalent in Europe than Minn Kotas or Moto Guides.

What is really interesting though is he caught it on a swimbait...because using live bait is illegal. In my experience with Wels most are caught on a dough ball type bait in a container kind of like the chumming pots used in deep dropping. They are fished for with artificial lures but most are caught basically fishing the same way they fish for Carp in Europe. The lure on the rod in the boat has a smallish white swim bait...it would be very small for a fish that size if thats what he caught it on. The rod and reel is also very small from what I know of Po river catfishing folks....most of them use revolving spool reels in the 6/0 or so range...that looks like about a 20 lb class spinning rod and reel LOL. Not saying it ain't so....its in Outdoor Life who is reputable....but lots of stuff in the picture is not typical of catfishing in Europe...in my experience.
