Area 6
29° 7mph North wind
Mathews lift RS

Made my 1 duck hunt of the season this morning at my buddy’s place. Between 3 of us, 1 shot was fired, 0 ducks killed. We deer hunted in there Wednesday, and jumped a bunch of mallards on the way out. Of course, they didn’t show up today.
Left his camp around 11:30, came back to the public I’ve been hunting, did some scouting, and got in a tree. Same general area I’ve been hunting. My camera that I got those bucks on, is on a ridge… I’ve been bouncing all around that ridge trying to figure out where they’re coming from, and where they’re going. I think I have it kind of figured out now. I believe they’re coming off some private land to the north, through some big woods, and funneling onto that ridge. I’m set up in those big woods between the private and the ridge. Found a few fresh rubs in here, and a lot of trails. We’ll see what happens, I guess.

Cold and windy
Tikka 308

Got a really nice 8 that’s been chasing. It’s probably way too windy to see him but I’m tucked in a tent on an old fence line between some big pines and junk. Does are bedding nearby and love this spot. They tend to be morning gals though. Can’t kill him on the couch. Love this cold.

It almost happened for me this evening. Had a real nice buck come out of the thick swampy stuff, heading towards me from behind. I grabbed my bow and spun around on my platform. Ranged a couple shot windows, had one at 40, and another at 27. He stopped at about 50 yards and started eating acorns. He fed in the same place for a while, then started walking towards my 40 yard window, but ended up crossing just beyond it, leaving me with no shot. He stopped, turned around, walked the same path right back to where he was and continued feeding until dark.
Sucks I didn’t get a shot, but this evening was my 88th sit this season, and that’s only the 3rd buck I’ve seen that I consider a shooter. I was starting to lose hope, but he gave me the motivation to keep grinding. I’ll be back in there in the morning, for sure!
