I don't understand what wires are going to my 3 way rocker switches on my boat console.
Trying to hook up a new anchor light
Can someone explain to me how most console boat switches are wired?
Go slow, i be a idiot

How many switches do you have, and what are they all for?

Usually on high end boats you'll have switches with breakers or resets above or below.

I have breakers, i just dont understand how the wires are supposed to be on this 3 way rocker switch. Off, anchor, and nav.
Just in general, like are the wires running to the switch just one leg?
And the switch has an led powered light in it

totally depends on the type of switch
but the basics are that switches complete a circuit when on and break it when off.

Sounds like most boats. They run the neg here and there and tap off when needed. The pos is more than likely the center terminal, but a tester is always nice.
If you have multiple power sources and want to test thigs for power, make sure you go to the neg of the same source as the pos.

Hey Grassy,
If you can take a picture of the switch and the bottom of the switch where the wire connect.
Most 3 way rocket switch's are ON/OFF/ON.
which means the center is off and when you push the switch up it powers one set of wires (wire).
when you press it all the down it powers the other wires (wires)
The center wire connection is hookup to 12vdc fuse.
The top wire connection is turn on when you flip the switch up.
The bottom wire connection is turn on when you flip the switch down.
The ground wire's are hookup together.

I believe your gonna need a switch with six terminals on the back. You may be able to find one with the jumper made on to the switch, if not you have to make one for it to work correctly.
