How safe is it to keep a boat docked on bayou petit caillou?

Our camp isn't on the water but we have access to a dock at a camp on the water within walking distance. The we know the folks that own the camp and they never use it. We'll lock up our hatches and the only thing "stealable" would be the GPS which we could take off.
Other than jackasses making a wake, how safe is it to keep a boat tied up on BPC over night like I described.

I know someone who never locks their power box for the boat lift power and leaves boats down there all summer. In addition thousands of dollars of electronics that could easily be taken during the week. Never had a problem. He's an idiot for leaving his stuff like that, but he's never had an issue.
