Well, if I factor in the fat drunkeness of my crowd in, I'm scared of that design anyway. We'll have 5 or 6 concussions every night due to the chair tipping backwards.

I think I might just go buy some #1 2 x and use that.
I'm going to stain it with the same stain my SIL used on a farm house table his brother built for them.

You can use 1x if you properly support it with cross members underneath but I would suggest 5/4 material with supports.
Don't try to build that without at least a single ibrace in the middle.

Fasten a 1x4 with the long length vertical under it. It will help out tremendously.
